Monsters vs Aliens

When California girl Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a “monster” named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured and held in a secret government compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country.

“A unique if not eclectic collection of songs that are fun and full of energy and beg to be danced to… Entertaining as hell… Full of surprises… Witty tongue and cheek lyrics that had me smirking all the way through.”

Tony Furtado to play the Boiler Room June 11

Tony Furtado will perform in the Sun Valley Resort Boiler Room Thursday, June 11. Doors open at 8pm. Show at 9pm. Cover $12 and drink specials.
Boiler Room Hotline: 622-2148

Tony Furtado, who grew up in Pleasanton, Calif., in the East Bay, took up the banjo at 12 and was hailed as a prodigy at age 19. As he was cementing his reputation as a banjoist extraordinaire, Furtado was also developing himself into an equally virtuosic slide guitarist. And now, with “Thirteen”, this restless artist makes an exponential leap into the wide-open spaces of mythopoetic America, a terrain inhabited by such personal heroes as Cooder, The Band, Creedence, Petty and Waits. No two ways about it – this heartfelt, multileveled work completes Tony Furtado’s ascent from the folk circuit to the big leagues.

Artist Biography:
Three powerhouse tenors, Dennis McNeil, Jose Medina, and Eduardo Villa, have wowed audiences from Los Angeles to Rome and Mexico to Slovenia singing the world’s greatest hits. What makes these three men so special is the fact that they have so much fun on stage and it is contagious. The audience of all ages will leap to their feet at the Pavilion with standing ovations and bravos!.

They have performed lead roles in operas around the world including New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera, Berlin Opera, Munich Opera, Paris Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Vancouver Opera, Atlanta Opera. Mr Villa is currently a regular guest artist at the Metropolian Opera.

Along with the grand tenor arias from the world of opera, they sing international popular songs from Mexico and Naples such as O Sole Mio as well Broadway favorites. In this World Premier show, preceding a tour to other cities, the Hutchins Consort violins join the tenor voices creating music that speaks to the heart. The Hutchins Consort plays on the eight matched violins of the New Violin Family – from tiny treble tuned an octave higher than a normal violin to the 7 ft tall contrabass violin. These instruments are the first successful attempt in the 500 year history of the violin to make a complete homogenous set that span the entire range of written music.

In 1990 on the occasion of the World Cup in Rome, the original Three Tenors performed at the Baths of Caraculla. The concert was telecast to millions around the world. Fame of “The Three Tenors” was instant. The recordings and videos of subsequent concerts have outsold those of Elvis and the Rolling Stones. They brought the classical voice to the masses.

The famous composer Lalo Schifrin, a member of the Sun Valley Opera Honorary Pavilion Committee, was invited to write the Gran Finale of the first Three Tenors Concert as well as subsequent World Cup concerts. Dennis McNeil, Jose Median and Eduardo Villa, are the only other tenors to have performed Maestro Schifrin’s repertorie under his baton in the USA and abroad.

Sara Evans Biography:

Strength, versatility and a spunky sense of adventure are qualities more often associated with literary heroines than successful country singers, but then there’s nothing typical about Sara Evans. Whether dominating country radio airwaves with one of her many hit singles or attracting a new legion of fans with her spirited turn on “Dancing with the Stars,” Evans’ drive, talent and determination have placed her in an elite class of artists who transcend musical genres to become a household name.

Indeed, Evans is on her way to becoming one of the most successful female artists of her generation–a compelling, heart-in-the-throat heir to Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. She’s won numerous accolades, among them the Academy of Country Music’s Female Vocalist of the Year and the Country Music Association’s Video of the Year for “Born to Fly”. She was named 2006 Female Vocalist of the Year in the R&R Reader’s Poll and has been celebrated as one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People.”

Evans has earned numerous #1 hits, two of which she co-wrote, including “Born to Fly,” “No Place That Far,” “Suds In The Bucket” and “A Real Fine Place to Start,” which spent two weeks at the top of the country charts. Of the five albums Evans has released, her sophomore set, “No Place That Far,” has been certified gold; 2001′s “Born to Fly” is double-platinum and 2003′s “Restless” and 2005′s “Real Fine Place” are both platinum.
