Weekend storms have blanketed Baldy with the first significant snowfall of the season. 17+ inches has fallen so far!

Sun Valley Resort expects to open the ski season Thanksgiving Day, however, this date could be pushed up should early snowstorms continue.

Can I get any info on what the past track record is for Sun Valley to open on Thanksgiving Weekend? We would love to book a couple of flight tickets now and we do realize its weather dependent – however we’re just trying to get a good idea on what our chances are of trails/lifts being open by that date. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Kate Randall

In the last 10 years we’ve partially opened Bald Mountain on Thanksgiving day or the day before 8 out of 10 times. As always it is weather and snowmaking temperature dependant.

The Resort itself is open year-round and we are offering a Thanksgiving Package that includes 4 nights lodging and 3 days of skiing and a lavish Thanksgiving Buffet feast for $282 per person double occupancy.

I hope this will help you in your vacation planning. Thank you!

  • Natalie

We’re thinking about coming to Sun Valley again over Thanksgiving however, this year we bought season ski passes how does this work with the passes included in the Thanksgiving Package? Thanks

  • Kate Randall

    Dear Natalie,

Since you already have a ski pass, what you need to do is book your room and the Thanksgiving buffet dinner separately.

The buffet is $39.50 for adults, $22.50 for kids age 12 & under.
Tickets available through the Recreation Center at (208) 622-2135

Rooms start at $139 for a Standard room in the Sun Valley Lodge.
For more information about room rates and reservations call 800-786-8259.

Thank you and we hope you enjoy your stay at Sun Valley.

By any chance is there going to be a Thanksgiving Dinner at the Roundhouse due to the new Gondola?!?!

  • Maurice Cooper

    Hello there,
I’ve been coming to the Lodge for more years than I’d care to mention for five days of accomodation and skiing on your pre-holiday special – usually driving from Seattle and arriving on the Sunday evening and leaving on the Friday after skiing. This year the dates are apparently Dec. 13 through Dec. 18. When I arrive it’s always a challenge to find out quickly what’s on in Sun Valley; Ketchum and Hailey during the week because the “real season” hasn’t started, but things are definitely happening, e.g the Carollers from Salt Lake arriving early at the Inn and doing a pre-show/practice run-through; “A Christmas Carol” dress rehearsal in Ketchum; the High School chorale show in Hailey….Do you track these things; is this list going to be repeated, and, if so, what nights; and can you add to my list?

  • Kate Randall

    Dear Carol,
Currently there is not a plan for Thanksgiving dinner at the Roundhouse this year, but on November 21 from 11am-2pm there will be a grand-opening celebration of the Roundhouse Gondola and people will be able to take a free round-trip ride on the Gondola to the Roundhouse and back down to River Run.

  • Sara

Maurice – you might check the local calendar at http://www.visitsunvalley.com. You might also call the NexStage and Liberty Theaters as well as Wood River High School and The Community School for their entertainment schedules because some of the events you mentioned are informal and not usually advertised to the public. You might also check with Caritas Chorale, the local choral group, as they often have a winter event. Hope you enjoy your trip!
