So now that the Gondola is officially open and following a party full of free stuff, a packed jib park, tons of "Wow, this is awesome!", more than one "Thanks, Sun Valley!", a tempting 4 inches of fresh pow, here are some numbers to get you even more stoked for the 2009/2010 season:
73: number of ski seasons Sun Valley has been open.
3,400: vertical feet of Bald Mountain.
2,054: Sun Valley’s skiable acres.
65: number of runs on Bald Mountain.
3,200: number of people who rode the new gondola at Saturday’s grand opening.
12,900: feet of cable taking each of the 56 cabins to the top terminal the 1,928 vertical feet to the top.
1,000: feet per minute the gondola travels.
6.75: number of minutes in which the gondola travels from the base of River Run to the Roundhouse.
204: feet the gondola cabins hang above Lower Olympic.
30: number of minutes you can ride up in the Gondola early for a warm breakfast at the Roundhouse.
45: number of minutes you can relax with your buddies and a beer or a glass of wine in the newly reopened Averell’s Bar located in the Roundhouse before riding the gondola back down after the mountain has officially closed.
70: years Baldy’s first on-mountain restaurant, the Roundhouse, has been open.
6: number of features in the jib park on Lower River Run that will stay there until they are moved to Dollar in mid-December.
5: number of lifts open on Thursday for opening day.

In the meantime, if you are looking for something to do this week, check out the Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber and Visitor’s Bureau "Meet the Sun Valley Champions" reception tonight at the Roosevelt. Local skiing legends like Reggie and Zach Crist, skateboarding champs Jedson Waters and Ben Parker, and Denise Simone, stage star from Company of Fools, will all be in attendance. From 5:00 to 6:30 you can meet, greet, and bask in the glow of some of the valley’s homegrown stars.
Or enjoy the tuneage of Flamenco guitarist, Art Wallace at 6:00 on Wednesday at Papa Hemi’s Hideaway in Ketchum, or the hopping bluegrass sounds of the Damphools at Hailey’s Sun Valley Brewery at 7:00 on Wednesday.
If you are looking to get out of the house but can’t make it on the mountain, prepare yourself to gorge on Turkey and sweet potatoes in the 6th Annual Hailey 5K Turkey Trot and Fun Run benefitting the Souper Supper Program and the Wood River Chapter of Girls on the Run. Also, you beat the crowds on Thanksgiving by taking the Roundhouse Gondola up half-an-hour early, at 8:30 and diving into the new "First Tracks Continental Breakfast". After you have scarfed down your breakfast, be one of the first on the hill and ski right from the Roundhouse at 9 o’clock sharp. The Roundhouse will be open all day for breakfast, a gourmet lunch, and aprs drinks at Averell’s Bar.
