Grand opening of the Roundhouse Gondola will be the highlight of Sun Valley Resort’s Winter Expo & Gondola ‘Ganza, Saturday, November 21 from 11 am to 2 pm at River Run Plaza.
Free gondola rides for all will begin immediately following a ceremonious ribbon cutting at 11 am at the Lower Terminal of the Roundhouse Gondola. The event, which also celebrates the beginning of Sun Valley Resort’s 74th winter season, will be a family affair with fun activities and events for everyone.
A free foot/snowshoe race put on by the Elephant’s Perch will begin following the ribbon cutting and will challenge runners and walkers to a race up to the Top Terminal of the Roundhouse Gondola. Pre-register at the Elephant’s Perch through Friday, November 20 and also at the event until 10 am.
Other events will include Sun Valley Mountain Dept. and Ski Patrol demonstrations, snow-cat and snowmaking displays, Snow Park Technologies Jib Park Preview, “Tastes of the Mountain,” local merchant booths, prizes and raffles, and free hot chocolate and hot cider.
The River Run Day Lodge will open at 9 am. Outdoor activities begin at 10 am and “Tastes of the Mountain,” will be served from 11 am to 3 pm.
Baldy Mountain chefs Scott Wamsley, River Run Day Lodge, Ken Pratt, Seattle Ridge Lodge, Eric Thomason, Warm Springs Lodge, Don Wise, Roundhouse and Chris Hodapp of Carol’s Dollar Lodge will serve delectable specialties from their respective restaurants at a nominal charge. Representative menu items will include blackened salmon caesar salad, tomato artichoke bisque, fish ‘n chips , macaroni and cheese and a wok station.
