Terrain Opening and Weekend Events

With frostbite on my cheek, a sore neck from my first fall of the season (I swear someone cut me off!), friends that complain they want to see me off the mountain, I thought maybe it was almost time to take a day off. But with more new terrain opening this weekend, a warm front on its way and possibly more snow coming at the end of the week, I think I can tough it out.

The 2009/2010 season keeps moving along as skiers and snowboarders continue to enjoy the cold December snow on Baldy. Even though faces are getting frostbite and the snow seems to be hitting everywhere but here, with wide open slopes and good coverage, locals know that this is some of the best skiing of the season.

And this weekend, Sun Valley is opening even more terrain. On Friday, Baldy will have three more open runs. The perfect first run of the day, Ridge, Blue Grouse, and everybody’s favorite Lower College will open. Dollar Mountain, Carol’s Lodge at the base, and Dollar’s new tubing park will also reopen for the season on Saturday.

Off the hill, the Sun Valley Suns Hockey team starts their season this Friday, the Sun Valley Spiritual Film Festival is presenting an evening with the author of Dances with Wolves Friday (svspiritualfilmfestival.org), and all are welcome to the "Marley in the Mountains" kick-off Sawtooth Avalanche Center benefit party takes place on Saturday at the 511 Building (marleyinthemountains.com) .

More runs open on Baldy

Three more runs will open on Baldy Friday, December 11, 2009. Ridge, Blue Grouse and Lower College will be added to Baldy’s open terrain.
The next day, Saturday, December 12 Dollar Mountain and Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge will re-open on a daily basis for the season.
