Spring is a time for new beginnings and there is no better place to renew your body, mind and spirit than in Sun Valley, Idaho this Memorial Day weekend, at the 15th annual Sun Valley Wellness Festival, known as one of the premier festivals of its kind in the US. The five day celebration, held at the famous Sun Valley Resort May 24-29, will focus on the theme "Own Your Energy", and will include more than 50 presentations and workshops addressing various modalities of body, mind, spirit and environmental wellness, and a Next Generation Wellness educational tract just for children.


Leading off the long list of impressive, nationally-renowned speakers is keynoter Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, neuroanatomist and bestselling author of My Stroke of Insight.    Other top speakers include the popular inspirational author Alan Cohen, anti-aging expert and author Dr. Uzzi Reiss,  "Spirit Junkie" Gabrielle Bernstein,  forgiveness teacher and expert Mary Hayes Grieco, Oneness University guide and monk Doug Bentley,  energy intuitive, Reiki master, author and teacher Marie Manucheri, R.N., religious scholar, professor and teacher Lama Marut, Clinical Neuropsychologist and author Charlotte A. Tomaino, Ph.D.,  spiritual healer, teacher and founder of the International Holistic Academy Konstatin Karsharov of Macedonia  and yoga Master Saul David Raye, who is well known for his empowering and transformational approach to yoga, healing, and spirituality.


The new Next Generation Wellness track will feature presentations designed specifically for children such as, Kids Yoga & Mindfulness Relaxation, Children’s Journaling, and Sharing Healing Touch.


Other new events:

  • Legendary singer-songwriter Carole King will also be at the festival, signing her new book, A Natural Woman, at the Chapter One bookstore area outside the Wellness Expo hall on Sunday, May 27.


  • Saul David Raye & guest musicians will present, ANANDA Cosmic KIRTAN, a soulful evening of sacred chant, meditation, movement and prayer on Saturday evening, May 26.


  • Decoding Deepak, a new feature-length documentary film that chronicles one year in the life of spiritualist and pop cultural icon Deepak Chopra, which is written, directed and produced by Deepak’s son, filmmaker and journalist Gotham Chopra.  The film will show at the Sun Valley Opera House on Thursday, May 24.


  • Guided meditation session in the Garden of Infinite Compassion (home to the Buddhist prayer wheel presented by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the community of Sun Valley) at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden and Opening Shaman Fire Ceremony at Trail Creek – both on Thursday, May 24.


Movement & Wellness Expo:  In addition to the exceptional line up of speakers and workshops, the Sun Valley Wellness Festival will offer a Movement Studio with a variety of ongoing classes with a focus on various types of yoga & Qi Gong practices taught by outstanding teachers, including Saul David Raye and Qi Gong master John Cole.  The Wellness Expo runs all weekend and features vendors selling wonderful wellness products from beautiful clothing to jewelry and health products.  In the Hands-On-Hall, attendees can get a massage, reflexology, have an intuitive reading, or try a henna tattoo.  The Wellness Expo is free and open to the public throughout the festival.


For those who want to mix in some outdoor fun, the Sun Valley area, set in the spectacular Idaho Rockies, is full of opportunities for outdoor recreating including hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, golf and more.  The community also has a vibrant arts and cultural scene that is innovative and world-class.

The Sun Valley Writers’ Conference, one of the best literary festivals in the country, celebrates its 17th year. Discerning readers and writers come together in Sun Valley to enjoy a wondrous weekend with prominent writers and artists presenting fiction, nonfiction, journalism, memoir, theatrical performance and music. A conference pass costs $850 and includes admission to all Pavilion events, smaller and more intimate breakout sessions with your favorite writers, and lunch on Sat., Sun., Mon.

The 2012 Sun Valley Writers’ Conference kicks off Friday, August 17 and ends on Monday, August 20.  A limited number of conference passes go on sale in February, 2012.

The largest privately funded free-admission symphony in America, the Sun Valley Summer Symphony celebrated its 27th season in the glorious Idaho mountains last summer. Founded in 1985 as the Elkhorn Music Festival by Dr. Carl Eberl, professor emeritus at the College of the City University of New York, and his wife Julianne, the orchestra grew from 22 musicians to 55 at the time of his retirement. Under the leadership of Maestro Alasdair Neale since 1995, the orchestra has grown to more than 100 players and presents free concerts to over 50,000 people annually.

The Big Hitch Parade has grown into the largest non-motorized parade in the West, displaying more than a hundred museum-quality buggies, carriages, tacks, carts, buckboards, and wagons of every variety in existence today. The Wagon Days Big Hitch is powered by an authentic sixteen-draft mule jerkline. Adding spice to the parade is a lively assortment of authentically costumed individuals, numerous breeds of horses, including Arabs, Morgans, and Pasos, as well as, professional and scholastic marching bands from around the state and the intermountain west.

Unique three-day festival honoring the history, heritage and cultures of sheepherding in Idaho and the west.  Includes a full-day Sheep Folklife Fair, a Fiber Festival, dancers, musicians, folk and traditional art, storytelling and culinary events featuring chefs, restaurants and American Lamb.  The event also includes workshops on fiber, cooking with lamb, photography, history, culture and a variety of other events.   There is a two-day National Qualifying Sheepdog Trial in conjunction with the Festival.  There are exhibits, storytelling, hikes and the Big Sheep Parade with 1,500 sheep strutting lively down Main Street, Ketchum, Idaho.
