The Valley Sun

Morgan Arritola, a Sun Valley local and a Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Olympic Development Team member, finished her very first Olympic race today in Whistler.

Arritola was the second fastest American female in today’s 10-Kilometer individual freestyle. She finished 34th overall in a strong field of 78 women. With her coaches, US Ski Team Teammates, parents, and SVSEF Nordic Coach Rick Kapala all there to cheer her on, Morgan raced a great race today. Congrats to our little speed racer! Seven members of the Norwegian Olympic Nordic ski team arrived in Sun Valley this Tuesday to finish off their training before the Olympics in Vancouver. Check out the fresh video and interviews!

The Sun Valley Nordic Festival is a week filled with nordic skiing, demonstrations, races, seminars, and activities all culminating with the Boulder Mountain Tour.

FIS regulation sprints on the White Cloud trail system at Sun Valley Nordic. 9am registration at Sun Valley Nordic Center. CASH PURSE!

The format:

9am – registration (day-of only)
10am – sprint qualifiers on 1.5 K White Cloud loop (most likely)
Top 30 men and women advance (if we have that many)

NOON 5k Snowshoe Race

1pm – Quarterfinal heats Sprints w/Snowshoe Race awards on site
2:30 – Semifinal heats
3:00 – Final heats (men and women)
3:30 – Awards (CASH PURSE)
4pm – Done

Join Sun Valley Nordic instructors, Olympians and Sun Valley Ski Education skiers for a day of tips and pointers specific to skiing the Boulder Mountain Tour. Skate technique only.
Schedule:
Session 1 – 10am start – covering skate technique, efficiency, V2 and V2+ focus). Followed by a lunch break.
Session 2 – 1pm start – focusing on starts, corners, feeds, nutrition…the easily overlooked details). Participants will be given reasonable rates on clinics (TBD).

Join Olympian Tessa Westbrook and Boulder Mountain Tour Champion Brooke Hovey at the Sun Valley Nordic Center for Boulder Prep Clinics, starting Thursday, January 7 at 4pm.  Meeting every Thursday for the next 4 weeks , the Boulder Prep Clinics will focus on a specific technique for approximately 30 minutes, followed by an hour long workout.  Workouts will reflect the given focus of each session.  At only $40 per session, the Boulder Prep Clinics provide skiers with expert advice and a killer workout.  Tell your friends, rally the troops and get ready for the Boulder Mountain Tour with the best instructors in the valley, on the best trails in the valley.  Intermediate and above ability levels only please.  Please call 622-2250 for more information or to sign up.
