Come celebrate the end of Dollar’s season at this weekend’s Dollar Dayz!

This weekend, April 3-4, Dollar Mountain and Sun Valley Company will be celebrating an epic season on Dollar Mountain.

The 2009/2010 had many highlights, including the introduction of the new SPT-designed terrain park, the revamp of the tubing park, the Lunar Eclipse Rail Jam Series, a skier/boarder cross course, a photo shoot with Monster Energy/Scott/Freeskier Magazine, and huge numbers of kids, families, skiers and boarders enjoying Dollar Mountain.

So in order to go out with a bang, Sun Valley Company is honoring Dollar Mountain and the local community with “Dollar Dayz”. The action will start Saturday, April 3, with a skier/boarder cross race. The race will have two age groups, ten and under, and 11-15. The race cost is $10, sign up is at nine, and racers will be in the gates at noon.

Dollar Dayz will continue Sunday, Dollar’s final day of the season, with a Pond Skim, BBQ, and Last Day of the Season Party. This is Dollar Mountain’s “Thank You” to the community, a way for them to thank the local community for making this one of Dollar’s best seasons ever. Everyone is invited to participate in this age-old spring tradition that has skiers and boarders gliding across the water on their skis or boards and costumes are strongly encouraged. There will also be a bbq, beer tent, and music.  The Pond Skim is FREE for all ages, sign up is  from 9 am -11 am, and the main event will begin at 1:00pm. There will also be a prize for the best costume, so come decked out and ready for some spring fun in the Sun Valley sun!

Dollar Adds a SkierCross Course to its Arsenal!

Dollar Mountain has added yet another draw to their arsenal. Yesterday, Brian Callahan and the rest of the park crew completed Sun Valley’s very first SkierCross course. Starting beside the second gap jump on Dollar’s Old Bowl and continuing down alongside the rest of the Terrain Park, the course includes a couple tables, left and right bank turns, rhythms, and a couple more gaps. The course provides skiers and riders an opportunity to check out the Winter Olympics’ newest sport, SkiCross, and hone their skills. The course is open to the public but riders are encouraged to ski and board safely, as well as be aware of other skiers and boarders in the terrain park and on the hill.

Stop by Dollar this weekend to check out the new SkierCross course, witness the action of the 54th annual Kindercup, or watch the SPT Terrain Park Team Rider Demo in Dollar’s Terrain Park following the Kindercup at 1 pm on Saturday afternoon.

Dollar’s First Rail Jam is a Success!

Check out the video below of Dollar’s very first Rail Jam. It is the first of a series of three, the winner of which gets a trip to Windell’s in Mt. Hood!

Saturday night brought out almost excited 300 fans who braved the freezing temperatures to hold cold beers in their hands, huddle around the bonfire, and cheer on the riders who showcased their stuff on the Smith Sport Optics Limo.

Lunar Eclipse Rail Jam Series Begins Saturday!

Dollar’s SPT-designed Terrain Park has been packed all season. Brian Callahan and the rest of the boys have been keeping it in top shape and rebuilding it throughout the season, adding new and fresh hits and features. Now, Sun Valley Resort wants to show off the region’s best new park with the Lunar Eclipse Rail Jam Series.

With bright spot lights, the Smith Limo, PBR, brats, discounted hamburgers, a DJ, nighttime tubing (Dollar’s Tubing Park will be open as well) and a name like Lunar Eclipse Rail Jam Series, this is sure to be an event not to be missed. Huge lights will light up the area as athletes can practice from 5-6 pm, and the contest runs from 6-9 pm. The overall winner from the three Saturday night competition will get an all-expense paid trip to Windell’s Camp. The action starts this Saturday, February 20th at Dollar Mountain. All lots will be open for parking as well as a parking shuttle that will run from the Ice Rink to Dollar Lodge.

Terrain Park Opening Saturday!

Sun Valley’s killer new Snow Park Technologies-designed terrain park on Dollar Mountain is opening in a matter of days. Complete with a huge jump line down Old Bowl and 12 new rails, boxes, and jibs, this is one of the biggest things Sun Valley has ever seen.

The boxes and other features have been in the works for weeks now, with some of the most legit terrain park experts in the country coming to put them together, even installing them on Lower River Run for the beginning of the season. Painted with Sun Valley’s signature blue and sun emblem, boarders, park rats, skiers, and even telemarkers have been stoked to practice and hone their skills on Lower River Run since Opening Day. Snow Park Technologies cat driver, Corley Howard, one of the best cat drivers in the world has been around town for the past few weeks, helping Sun Valley and new park manager, Brian Callahan, get ready for the opening of the new park. Callahan has recently been brought over from terrain park central, Breckenridge, CO, and is amped for the terrain park to get open and for the word to get out. His goal, he says, for the next few years is to get Sun Valley on top in terms of terrain parks and features.

Starting this Saturday, December 19th, the entirety of Dollar’s new park, with ALL the rails, the HUGE jump line, and the rest of the features being added to the park’s arsenal will open. Head over there early to be first in line at the Hip or check out the skills of some of the Valley’s best athletes flying off the true tables and gap jumps around the new park.

Also opening Saturday is Baldy’s 18-foot Superpipe and Dollar’s revamped tubing park. Check out Snow Park Technologies’ website for more about what they are doing in the ski/snowboard industry (www.snowparktech.com). Here are some pics of the park in progress over the past weekend.
