The Sun Valley Race Department put on another great season of racing for this year’s Town Series. Seven weeks of racing finished up yesterday, with a festive and green finale on Lower Cozy and a St. Patty’s Day after-party that any Irishman would be proud of. Teams came out in costumes, like SVSEF’s green maiden dresses, Team Lip Service’s one-piece ski suits and Mardi Gras boas, the Flat Out Ridiculous Team’s neon green wigs, the Blog Chicks’ matching socks, shorts, and shamrock headbands, and Wood River Masonry even lit rockets on the back of their skis.
Robin Sarchett was the overall winner yet again, beating second and third placed Carlo Rixon and Nate Schwing by seven tenths of a second. The top female was speedy Erika Hogan, who finished seventh overall, beating the second placed woman, Sarah Mazzola, by half a second. The rabbits this week were Chris Key (in one of his best finishes of the season) and Chris Campbell. The fifth placed male and female, and winners of a fifth of tequila, were Wes Powell and Toby Arnett.
The season’s top team, Scott USA, celebrated in style, breaking out the champagne on Apple’s sunny deck. Congrats to John Reagle, Toby Arnett, John Zuck, and Jeff Page. The four teams who rounded out the top five, and had their names in the drawing for three season-passes from Sun Valley Resort, were Casino Dancing Bears, Wood River Masonry, the Drunken Blumkens, and the Rainbow Warriors. The celebrating continued throughout the beautiful St. Patrick’s Day afternoon on Apple’s Bar and Grill’s packed patio with delicious corned beef and hash and tons of green beer.
Congrats to all the racers on another great season of World Cup Wednesdays! A big thanks goes out to Mike Wrobel and the rest of the Sun Valley Race Department. Another thanks goes out to the Valley bars and restaurants who sponsored the 2010 Town Series parties!

The Sun Valley Town Series, aka World Cup Wednesday, continued yesterday after a Presidents’ Week hiatus. The valley’s favorite racers were back on a fast course on Lower Cozy, completing both of the week’s two required runs. The after-party took place at one of Ketchum’s cornerstones of nightlife, the Casino. See below for this week’s results and check back next week for more updates on World Cup Wednesday!

Week Three of Sun Valley’s Alpine Town Series took place yesterday on a sunny course on Lower Cozy. The course was fast and turny, shaking up the team standings. Last week’s first place six-way tie was broken as Team Ski Tek Trainwrecks took the lead while favorite, Team SVSEF fell to 24th place and last year’s winners, Tekasoreass’s dropped to eighth.
There was also a new first place skier in the individual standings. Tekasoreass’s Carlo Rixon took the top spot, beating second place Nate Schwing by six tenths of a second and last week’s winner, Robin Sarchett by the same. Powerhouse and last week’s top female, Erika Hogan, had the undisputed best crash of the day, luckily walking away unscathed from a yard sale on her first run. This week’s fastest female was Sarah Mazzola with Tine Cordeau finishing just behind her.
The fifth place male and female were Matt Murphy and Kirsten Hagfors, sharing the honorary fifth of tequila. The rabbits (halfway finishers) were local celebrity Lenny Joseph and Mitra Marie. The Cellar Pub hosted a great after-party that included build-your-own pulled pork sliders and instant replays of Erika’s crash. There are no races next week but check back in two weeks for more results of World Cup Wednesday.
The Sun Valley Town Series continued this week. This time it was a little cloudy with some snow falling as your favorite local racers competed on Lower Cozy. As Race Department head Mike Wrobel said, he must have set the course pretty fast because this week the racers killed it on the GS course. Dead Last Team member, Robin Sarchett continued his winning streak, grabbing first place and beating his nearest competition, Carlo Rixon (from Team Tekasoreass’s), by four tenths of a second. The top girl this week was speedy Erika Hogan (Team SVSEF) again, finishing fourth overall. The winners of the traditional fifth of tequila (the fifth place male and female) were John Campbell from Team Hide the Decline and birthday girl and Scott USA team member, Toby Arnett. Billy Cook (Team Pulling Out Is For Quitters) and Kevin Moss (Hores to Culture) were the two rabbits this week, finishing 51st and 52nd.
Six teams tied for first this week, each with zero points. They were Wood River Masonry, Tekasoreass’s, SVSEF, Ski Tek Trainwrecks, Scott USA and the blog.sunvalley.com Blog Chicks. And because the top place goes to the first alphabetically, your very own blog.sunvalley.com Blog Chicks were the winning team this week. Check back next Thursday to find out if the Blog Chicks can keep it up, or if any other shake ups happen for next week’s World Cup Wednesday. Thanks to Whiskey Jacques for hosting this week’s after-party!
